Dear Seniors & Parents

Dear Seniors & Parents,

For students who are planning to submit an application in an early round (early action, early decision, or restrictive early action) or who plan to apply during Colorado Free Application Days Oct. 15-17, please book your Individual Meetings with Karen (A-K) or Brennan (L-Z) ASAP. Seniors should have at least two Individual Meetings in advance of an Application Submission Meeting. Remember, students are not allowed to miss class for meetings. Be sure to schedule during lunch, SET or a free period. Parents are welcome (but not required) to join the meeting either in person or virtually.

It is important to note that this year the November 1st EA, ED, REA deadline takes place over ASD's fall break. Karen, Brennan and Susanne will be "burning the midnight oil" in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that week, so students should be finalizing their November 1st applications with us before Thursday, October 30th. Over the break, Susanne will be available to process/send supporting documents for applications submitted that have also moved to the "Applied" Column in Scoir.

Please be aware that some colleges require the CSS Profile to award non-federal aid packages (ie scholarships and grants awarded by the institution). The CSS Profile is often due when the application itself is due or shortly thereafter, so please check this list of schools that require the CSS Profile. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will open December 1st and we encourage all families to submit the FAFSA as soon as possible.

For students who are submitting test scores to colleges --- be sure confirm with each of your schools whether self-report scores are accepted or if an offical score report is required. Official score reports are ordered by the student via collegeboard.org or act.org and should be ordered two weeks prior to the application deadline. AHS cannot order score reports for students.

Regarding Teacher Letters of Recommendation: Students, if you are applying early, please make sure your deadlines are listed correctly in SCOIR so that teachers know when their letters of rec need to be complete. You do not need to ask teachers if they've written their recommendations unless your deadline has changed. Teachers check SCOIR for deadlines, and write their letters according to the deadline listed in SCOIR.

In addition to Individual Meetings, seniors should attend our Application Workshops which are offered three times each week from now until Thanksgiving Break --- Tuesdays from 4-5pm, Wednesdays during lunch and Thursdays during SET.

Of course, not every student will be pursuing a traditional four-year degree. If this is the case for you, please reach out to Karen (A-K) or Brennan (L-M) so that we can start putting together a plan based on their interests.

- Karen, Brennan & Susanne

P.S. Once you have submitted a college application, log back into Scoir and move that school to the "Applied" column. Susanne is not able to release your transcript and recommendations until you have done so.

SCOIR

Aspen High School uses the Scoir platform for college exploration, research and for managing your college list. It is also how AHS electronically submits all of the documents that support college applications - transcript, school profile, secondary school report, teacher recs, counselor rec, etc.
