Spring Reminders:

Spring is such an exciting time for graduating seniors, and we wanted to share a few important reminders:

STAY ENGAGED IN SCHOO

Second-semester senior grades actually do matter. Colleges can rescind offers of admission if grades drop dramatically. You're almost done ... finish strong!

UPDATE SCOIR

It is so important for the Post-Secondary office to have up-to-date information regarding where students have been admitted, waitlisted, or denied. Some students may have already decided the school where they will attend which should be marked in Scoir as "Enrolling." Updating Scoir enables us to submit the appropriate documentation to schools. Additionally, it would be very helpful for our records if you can indicate if students applied with or without test scores. All information in Scoir will be held confidential. If you are waitlisted or have questions about a decision, you will want to meet with your Post-Secondary counselor to discuss next steps.

FINANCIAL AID OFFERS, FAFSA & LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Department of Ed has started to release FAFSA Submission Summaries (including a Student Aid Index SAI). Students can log in to their FAFSA account, go to "My Activity" and click on 2024-25 FAFSA form (which should be marked with green check and "processed"). Then, scroll down and click on the blue button "FAFSA Submission Summary." Submission Summary information will be sent to all of the schools that were listed on the FAFSA form. With the release of FAFSA information, schools have begun preparing financial aid packages. Students who would like help understanding financial aid offers and weighing options, may schedule an appointment with Karen, Brennan or Susanne. **Students who applied for financial need-based Local Scholarships should upload a copy of their FAFSA Submission Summary and confirm their SAI via **THIS FOR

BELL RINGING TRADITION

We are continuing the bell-ringing tradition! The idea is to celebrate all students when they have made their Post-Secondary plans -- whether that be college, trade school, work or other. Students who have committed to a college, or another path after high school, may come ring the bell in the Mezzanine (above the Commons) during lunch. Please check in with one of the Post Secondary staff before ringing the bell.

DECISION DAY

In a typical year, most colleges and universities require that students decide where they will enroll and make a housing deposit by the May 1st National Decision Day deadline. Because of FAFSA delays this year, many schools are delaying their decision deadline to June 1st and beyond. Don't stress, students have all of April to receive financial aid packages from the schools where they've been admitted, weigh options, visit campuses (if possible), and take advantage of in-person and virtual admitted student events.

FINAL TRANSCRIPTS & TEST SCORES

In mid-June, when all grades have been sealed, Susanne will send final Aspen High School transcripts to the schools marked "Enrolling" in Scoir. For students who applied with SAT or ACT test scores, official score reports may be required and students are responsible for ordering these reports from either Collegboard or ACT. IB transcripts, including exam scores, may also be sent to colleges for potential college credit consderation. Eileen Knapp will communicate with students in May regarding their IB transcript preferences.
Remember, we are here to support you - don't hesitate to reach out anytime

Of course, not every student will be pursuing a traditional four-year degree. If this is the case for you/your child, please reach out to Karen (khawkes@aspenk12.net) (A-K) or Brennan (bdignan@aspenk12.net) (L-M) so that we can start putting together a plan based on your/their interests.

Bell Ringing Tradition!
Bell Ringing Season!

Some seniors are starting to formalize your plans for life after high school and, we are continuing the bell-ringing tradition. The idea is to celebrate all students when they have made their Post-Secondary plans -- whether that be college, trade school, work or other. Starting February 1st students who have committed to a college, or another path after high school, may come ring the bell in the Mezzanine (above the Commons) during lunch. Please check in with one of the Post Secondary staff before ringing the bell.
Students celebrating one another, for whatever path they take after high school, promotes community. So let's celebrate each other!
